Hi KPulse01@rams.shepherd.edu,
I’ll add in the pit fiend this week. When selecting weapons with special abilities select the correct “+ x Special ability” where x is the cost bonus of the special ability. E.g. for a +1 Axiomatic sword select magic weapon (+1) +2 Special and the cost (18000) will be calculated correctly.
Paul
Hi jovallerand,
Are you talking D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder and do you mead the generator screen or the plain text version?
At the moment the plain text version is in the format of the Pathfinder RPG stat boxes.
Paul
Although two things: (1) Would it be possible to make it even more blocky? In the “standard” ones, they usually only make 3 (4 for casters) “paragraphs”: the general one, one for skills and feats, one for spells, and one for possessions/magic items.
(1b) By the way, would it be possible to have a text box to put mundane items in so they were added to the inventory?
And (2) by putting SAs and SQs together, it did not put commas nor space between each instance. For example, my goblin sorcerer came out with this line:
SA , SQ Darkvision 60Summon Familiar
By the way, I am honestly amazed by how much user feedback you use and how quickly you use it. I will therefore probably just drown you under such questions. Feel free to say “yo, calm down just a bit” if you feel it is necessary to do so.
Any chance of adding a racial-modifier option for Skills in the Monster Creator (Add/Edit) section. You could put it below the skills section; some of the monsters I create have racial-bonuses, and they max-out these skills, so I just can’t increase the ranks on the 3.5 NPC Generator later. An optional dialogue add-on would be handy as well (e.g. +4 bonus with dialogue of in forested areas).
Just a suggestion.
PS: any chance of adding the Archmage prestige class in the near future?
Idea: Could there be an option to set a few core details for an NPC and create muliple NPC types from that? Example: I’m putting together an Orc tribe, so I set the race, perhaps a template and level (or a level range perhaps?), set a number (or range?) and with a click we get common orc soldier, chief, shaman and a couple of sub-chiefs?
Hi pelldom,
That’s a good idea, I’d probably need to auto generate magic items as well. I think I may start with the magic items and then think about gangs and groups. If you can think more about what details need to be entered to create the multiple types that would help me out.
Perhaps I am missing something, but when trying to simulate some npc characters being changed into zombies, i try to create the same level 6 char with a zombie template but when I hit create, the level is back at 1 and I can’t change it. Works fine on Vampire, Ghost, Lich and a few others, but on zombie and skeleton it will not allow it. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi Steelplayer36,
Zombies being mindless lose their class levels, but if you want class level you can give the zombies some intelligence, you will then be able to add class levels to them in the display screen.
Paul
Is it possible that I lost my premium member advantages, and my saved monsters and NPCs? I am at work right now, but I believe I used to have access to this data from here also.
Hi Jovallerand, You are still a lifetime member. The problem is probably that cookies are not enabled on your work computer. If you lose the logged on as jovallerand message on the left of the screen then it’s a cookies problem. Have a look at this link http://www.dinglesgames.com/how-to-guide/having-trouble-accessing-monster-create/

Hi jovallerand, I can only use the core books with the D&D 3.5 NPC Generator because Wizards have the copyright on the others and do not allow anyone to use the material. I can use all the Pathfinder books on the Pathfinder NPC Generator though.
I am a Summoner with the Augment Summoning feat. When I try to add the Celestial Template and Augment Summoning feat to a Elemental, it does not work. Please let me know I am doing anything wrong.
Hi ElCatitan, My fault I’m afraid. I’d just released a new piece of code that broke templates. They should be working correctly now though. Do tell me of anything else you find.
Cheers,
Paul
Hi jovallerand
Yes I can only use stuff from the SRD have a look at http://www.d20srd.org/ to see what is available.
Wizards have been known to close sites down with cease and desist orders so I can’t risk using the non SRD material.
Pathfinder on the other hand is all SRD. Personally I have upgraded to pathfinder RPG and am very happy with it, it’s like D&D 3.5 but with more variety.
Paul
Hi CraigNobbs,
At the moment Weapon focus is only added to the Primary weapon, The spell focus will have to be added manually to the spell DC. Both are on my list to get to work correctly.
Paul
I’ve recently tried to create a Blackguard in the 3.5 generator only to have it turned down as the character was not lv7. Is being lv7 a pre-req for prestige classes? If not, could this limitation be taken out?
Hi jovallerand, to be a Blackguard you need a base attack bonus of +6 so you need at least 6 levels of a fighter class first. Most prestige classes require a pre-req of at least 6 levels to get the pre-req skills. Rather than checking each class and skills I just put a level limit on them.
The message is a bit misleading you can create a prestige class with just 6 levels split between classes 1 and 2 (or all on class 1).
Paul
Thank you Paul for the answer! However, I still will push my point:
First, while it is true for Blackguard, a class like the assassin can be obtained after lv5.
Second, a Monster can have a BAB of +6 without a single level of another class. Unless there is a rule against that, he should be able to start off as a blackguard, shouldn’t he?
Hi jovallerand,
I’ll look into more specific vetting for prestige classes, I don’t really want to take the vetting off completely. You are right about a monster with +6 BAB could start as a blackguard, but It does state that prestige classes offer a new form of muliclass so aren’t supposed to be a class in there own right.
Paul
I’ve been logging on today and the system acknowledges that I am logged on - howeverf I can’t generate a Pathfinder Human Cleric over level 5. it treats me like I’m not a paid user
Regarding my earlier query, most humanoids are considered to have “racial” class levels, and therefore can go straight to a prestige class. Actually, the first Monster Manual has a Frost Giant Blackguard 8.
Hi jovallerand, I’ve taken the easy rout and included the racial hit die as well as class levels to see if the total > 5 to allow a prestige class.
I may at a later date try to vet prestige classes correctly but it could be a bit complex
Cheers,
Paul
Is any kind of video demo of the Monster Creator available? I understand that a functional demo of it could be bad for sales, but I wish to see if it has the functionality necessary to fulfill my needs before I spend $40 US on it.

Let me know haw you get on.

Is the Devil, Pit Fiend not available? Also, why do weapon + with special abilities not calculate in?
Hi KPulse01@rams.shepherd.edu,
I’ll add in the pit fiend this week. When selecting weapons with special abilities select the correct “+ x Special ability” where x is the cost bonus of the special ability. E.g. for a +1 Axiomatic sword select magic weapon (+1) +2 Special and the cost (18000) will be calculated correctly.

Hi KPulse01@rams.shepherd.edu,
I’ve now added the Pit fiend and the Ice devil (which I’d also missed).
Paul
Hi!
Is there a way to get a stat block like what they do in official modules? If not, is that in the plans?
Hi jovallerand,
Are you talking D&D 3.5 or Pathfinder and do you mead the generator screen or the plain text version?
At the moment the plain text version is in the format of the Pathfinder RPG stat boxes.
Paul
I mean the DnD version, and the plain text version. What I mean is a statbox in a block as opposed to a table, like this one:
DRelgore Himtooth: Male bugbear barbarian 3;
CR 5; Medium humanoid (goblinoid); HD 3d8+9 plus
3d12+9; hp 50; Init +2; Spd 40 ft.; AC 19, touch 12, flatfooted
19; Base Atk +5; Grp +9; Atk +10 melee
(1d12+7/[TS]3, +1 greataxe) or +7 ranged (1d6+4,
javelin); Full Atk +10 melee (1d12+7/[TS]3, +1 greataxe)
or +7 ranged (1d6+4, javelin); SQ darkvision 60 ft., fast
movement, illiteracy, rage 1/day, scent, trap sense +1,
uncanny dodge; AL CE; SV Fort +7, Ref +6, Will +2;
Str 19, Dex 15, Con 16, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 6.
Skills and Feats: Climb +5, Hide +4, Intimidate +4,
Jump +4, Listen +2, Move Silently +8, Spot +2, Swim +2;
Cleave, Great Cleave, Power Attack.
Hi jovallerand,
I will look into adding a short print tab. It shouldn’t take long
Paul
Thank you!
Hi jovallerand,
I’ve released a short print version, let me know what you think.
Paul
It’s quite neat!
Although two things: (1) Would it be possible to make it even more blocky? In the “standard” ones, they usually only make 3 (4 for casters) “paragraphs”: the general one, one for skills and feats, one for spells, and one for possessions/magic items.

Hi jovallerand,
I’ve done some more changes to the short print.
Do let me know of any other suggestions you have.
Cheers
Paul
Everything looks great so far! Thanks a whole lot!
However, could you add a button for the short print at the bottom of the page?
Hi jovallerand,
Button added

This seems to be working! Thank you!
Also, is there any plans of adding the classes from the “Complete …” series to the DnD NPC creator, such as Hexblade, Swashbuckler or Spellthief?
Hi jovallerand, I can only use the core books with the D&D 3.5 NPC Generator because Wizards have the copyright on the others and do not allow anyone to use the material. I can use all the Pathfinder books on the Pathfinder NPC Generator though.

Oh, did not think of that! Is that also the reason why only the first Monster Manual creatures are on here?
Hi jovallerand

Yes, I’m slowly going towards that also, the only thing keeping me back is the fortune I’ve invested in D&D books…
Thank you for your answers!
Hi Paul,
Thank you fixing the issue with the templates. Works now like a charm. Great program and site!
ElCapitan
Hello, love your site and use it all the time, but I have a question.
How do you/can you specify which weapon for Weapon Focus or School of Magic for Spell Focus?
Hi CraigNobbs,
At the moment Weapon focus is only added to the Primary weapon, The spell focus will have to be added manually to the spell DC. Both are on my list to get to work correctly.

I noticed that there Bronze dragon is not an option. Are you planning to add it in the future?
Hi EmmaDrake. I’ll try and get the Bronze Dragon added within the next week.

Hey Paul,
any chance you’ll be putting in Githyanki and Githzerai any time soon?
Love your work btw.
Grtz.
I’m not allowed to use the names0 Githyanki and Githzerai as they are copyrighted but look at Gith for something similar
