This tool is for DMs who are tired of spending an hour generating a monster or NPC only to see their players kill it in a few brief rounds of combat. Using this monster generator, a DM can create a 20th level Stone Giant fighter in a minute or two or 3rd level Drider cleric in just a few seconds. Allowing you, the GM, to either experiment to find the right monster to really challenge your party or simply use the time you save creating monsters to write more adventures.

The monster and NPC generators follows all the rules of D&D 3.5 for creating monsters with classes and NPCs. So the monsters / NPC you create with this tool are just as good as the ones you would create by hand. The results can be printed out directly from the web page or use the plain text option to cut & paste the monster into your adventure.

The tool is easy to use. Simply select the monster and optionally select its classes, levels and its skill focus. The focus controls how the monster's / NPCs skill points are used, ensuring that your monster / NPC has the right skills to terrorise your party. Special attacks and class abilities are allocated automatically but the monster generator / NPC generator lets the GM select the feats. Monsters / NPCs also start with their default weapons and attacks but these can be changed, as can the monster's ability scores and size.

Once you are happy with your changes press the RECALCLATE button to see how the changes effect the monster.

The monster generator and NPC Generator are free to use and supplied "as is". If you have any questions or problems, please write to us: CONTACT (at) DinglesGames (dot) com.

    Hey Paul,
Have you considered adding the 3.5 monster manuals II, III and IV? Also, I didn’t see beholders on your list of monsters here. Could you add that in?

  2. admin says:

    Hi verger7
I can only add in SRD material or I breech copyright rules a similar creature to beholder is on the generator but the beholder name is copyrighted check out floating eye its very similar.

    paul

  3. verger7 says:

Ah, okay. That’s too bad about the other monster manuals. By the way, the eagle seems to have a tail attack. I don’t think that’s right. Keep up the wonderful work, you make DM’ing from a chore to a pleasure.

  4. admin says:

    Hi Verger7,
Thanks for pointing out the mutated eagle. I’ve now fixed him.
I am able to use more Pathfinder material (on the Pathfinder Generator) than D&D 3.5 as it’s all SRD.
    Paul

  5. James says:

Hi. Just a quick question here: Why have certain monsters have been left off the monster list? Two that I’ve noted are bralani and ghaele, both of which are in the SRD. Or am I just overlooking them?

Apologies if this has already been asked & answered!

And many thanks for putting together this truly excellent site.

  6. admin says:

    Hi James,
I’ll look into those monsters, they should be available next week.
The problem is I don’t know what is new to the SRD I’ve only added the core material, If you want other SRD material added just give me a nudge.

    Paul

  7. James says:

No rush, I just happened to notice that they are missing. They’re in the original 3.5e SRD (and MMI) so that’s the only reason I was a little surprised not to see them.
Anyway, thanks for the quick response.
    Cheers!

  8. admin says:

    Hi James,
I’ve added the bralani and ghaele. When I was setting up the monsters I left the complex good aligned ones to last. So these were just forgotten
    Paul

  9. James says:

    Hi Paul.
Heh, I usually forget the good “monsters” myself! Thanks for the quick update, I’ll put it to good use. ;)
    James.

  10. Fabio Montanari says:

I’m going to subscribe for the Lifetime option, if You assure me that You will keep this site up-and-running for at least 1.5 years :-)

I think You done a very good job, but level restrictions are a pain, so I will gladly subscribe.

    Let me know.

    Monty

  11. admin says:

    Hi Fabio Montanari,
The site will be running for at least 1.5 years hopefully at least 40 years (my lifetime), unless I get hit by a bus, natural calamity, end of the world scenario, etc,
    Paul

  12. Monty says:

I’m Fabio “Monty” Montanari again… how does it takes activation? I just checked out with Google, but no code sent. Please delete these comments after finishing procedure… won’t mess-up public message board. TY

  13. admin says:

  14. admin says:

    Hi Monty,
I’ve now set you up manually any problems let me know
    Paul

  15. admin says:

    Hi Cradax,
Hopefully the print problem is now fixed. Let me know if you still have problems
    Paul

  16. dracosuldi says:

What happened to the marid entry?

  17. admin says:

    Hi dracosuldi,
The Marid is only on the Pathfinder NPC Generator, I don’t think it’s part of the D&D 3.5 SRD so i can’t use it on this generator.
    Paul

  18. graywolf7902000 says:

    Hi,
I noticed that the silver, copper and bronze dragons are missing from the list.

  19. admin says:

    Hi graywolf7902000,
Yes I will get around to adding them. Dragons take a lot of time adding in, after the evil dragons, I took a rest and only started the good ones when people asked for the specific dragon. I’ll set them up after I finish adding the auto feats to the Pathfinder RPG Generator.
    Paul

  20. admin says:

    Hi graywolf7902000,
Copper, Silver and bronze dragons have now been added to both D&D and Pathfinder Generators
    Paul

  21. graywolf7902000 says:

Thank you for adding them. I look forward to using them in my games.

  22. inkedmsd says:

If you create a template in the Monster Creator can you add it to a Generated Monster, and if so how do you add it?

  23. admin says:

    Hi Inkedmsd,
There is no way to add a template to a saved monster. You can only add the templates to new creations.
    Paul

  24. Magerman1 says:

Can you set me up manually i used paypal and only see instructions for google?

  25. admin says:

    Hi Magerman1,
    Thanks for the membership.
I’ve now set you up manually
    Paul

  26. JFurlong says:

Something seems wrong with the ‘Class special abilities’ section for NPCs. Was just examining some of my saved NPCs and this section now appears to contain class abilities from all the different classes, not just the class abilities of that NPC. Not a bit deal, just thought I’d point it out!

  27. admin says:

    Thanks JFurlong,
should be fixed now. I’d made a change to the class specials to cope with class archetypes from the Pathfinder Advanced Players Guide.
    Paul

  28. Boric G says:

    Paul:
I’m having a problem loggin in. I can log in just fine, but when I go to the D&D NPC generator, it shows me as logged out. This does not happen on the Pathfinder NPC generator. Any ideas?

  29. Matt says:

Can you please plan on adding the templates and sub-types like baatzu and tan’iri ( I think I spelled them wrong.) and also the ability to modify traits and abilities like extra cold resistance. I am going to buy a lifetime membership and I think that those additions would make the generators better tools.

    Thank you,
    Matt Funkhouser

  30. admin says:

    Hi Matt,
I’m not allowed to use the names Baatezu and Tanar’ri subtype as they are copyrighted by WOTC. With membership, however, you can add in your own templates. I am planning to add another 2 templates to the NPC Generators so a monster can be created with up to 3 templates.
    Paul

  31. Matt says:

    Thanks man.

  32. Killer Angel says:

Hi Paul. I can’t seem to get the monster creator to add a template to the 3.5 NPC creator. It will add it to the Pathfinder NPC creator, but not the 3.5 one. Also, when an error bounces me back to the monster generation screen, some of the filled-in data is lost and I have to re-enter it. I failed to do that and I have to re-enter it all. Also, is there a way to make the damages in a template I create scalable, like the claw and bite attacks for a half-fiend are? Otherwise, good job. I mostly want the template to just appear in the 3.5 section, the rest I can line-edit out in a RTF doc. Thanks.

  33. admin says:

    Hi Killer Angel,
Creating a template should add it to both the Pathfinder RPG and D&D 3.5 Generator. It could be wordpress is loosing your login id. When you are on the 3.5 generator does it still say you are logged in on the left hand column?
    Paul

  34. admin says:

It looks as if there is a compatibility problem with the version of wordpress I’m using and IE9. If people are having problems I suggest using Firefox as a browser until I can upgrade.
    Paul

  35. Killer Angel says:

    Hi Paul,

I was using IE9. Using Firefox solved the entire problem. I created a template and got no error messages and it saved the template in both NPC generators. You know I do a lot of custom builds and it is tons faster to enter data here and let the generators do the crunching than do it by hand. Thanks for your help, and thanks for your site.

  36. Matt says:

Is the expanded psionics handbook OGL(I thought it was the psionics handbook)? You have the psion class tailored to it and that would great if you could do that.

    Thanks for the site,
    Matt

  37. Matt says:

    Paul,

I am sorry for the incomprehensible comment. What I am asking for is in the near future if you could revise the psionic monsters in the ways mentioned in the Expanded Psionics Handbook. Also, I use this a lot for spellcasters and if you want I could send you my spell progression for the sorcerer, wizard, and psion classes.

    Thanks for the site,
    Matt

  38. admin says:

    Hi Matt,
I can add psionics to the monsters on http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/psionicMonsters.htm Do you have any preferences. Your spell progressions would be useful, also any psionic feat progressions you can suggest. send to paul(at)dinglesgames.com
    Paul

  39. admin says:

    Hi Matt,
I’ve started adding the Psionic Monsters,so far done Blue, Brain mole, Caller in Darkness and Cerebrilith.

    Paul

  40. admin says:

I’ve now added the psionic monsters Couatl Psionic, Crysmal,Dromite,Duergar (Psionic), Elan, Folugub, Gray Glutton, Half-Giant, Intellect Devourer, Maenad, Neothelid, Phrenic Creature, Phthisic, Psion-Killer, Puppeteer (Flesh Harrower), Temporal Filcher, Thought Eater
    Paul

  41. Matt says:

Thanks man, have you got my email?

    Matt

  42. admin says:

Hi Matt I’ve got your E-mail, thanks. I’ll keep it for when I create the auto Spell creation on the generators
    Paul

  43. ian says:

theres no xill on the creature list, im certin they were there before

  44. admin says:

Hi Ian, Looks as if I had missed out the Xill. I’ve now added it.
    Paul

  45. Matt says:

Can you add the psionic version of the mind flayer?

    Thanks for the site,

    Matt

  46. admin says:

Hi Matt, The mind flayer is not SRD so I can’t add it, I have no stats for it either as I haven’t gor the psionic hand book
    Paul

  47. Matt says:

I can email you the psionic stats for the mind eater, if you want. For the psionic and spell-like abilities, can you give a short description of what they do like you do with the spell list?

    Thanks for the site,
    Matt

  48. admin says:

    Hi Matt,
I’d better steer clear of non SRD material as WOC can get a bit pickerty, and I can’t afford a lawyer.
I’ll give some thoughts about displaying the short description for spell like and psionic abilities though.
    Paul

  49. Hungpowshrimp says:

How can I email you to purchase a membership? I am planning on it Friday, but I can’t seem to find an email address to contact you, once the payment is made.

  50. admin says:

    Hi Hungpowshrimp
