  1. Rem says:

I use a lot of MS Excel-based supplements (some of which I’ve made myself, and you can download them on my site), and have been trying to wrap my head around how to do a treasure generator in Visual Basic for Applications. Finding it here is fantastic and saves me a lot of thinking! You may want to consider adding the ability to raise the treasure modifier (i.e. when a monster says that it has double-standard treasure). Maybe something like “Treasure Multiplier *insert or select number from a drop-down menu*.”

  2. Paul says:

Thanks Rem, it is certainly on my list of things to do. I am planning on inserting the treasure generator into the monster generator at some point, so it will have to have the Treasure Multiplier” ability.

  3. Ian says:

    Excellent tool, very helpful!

  4. Paul says:

    Thanks Ian,
I’m planning on upgrading the treasure generator in a few weeks to apply Rems suggestions.
I’m busy adding magic items to the NPC generator at the moment.

  5. Paul says:

A post in our forum pointed out your site and I love what you have done. Keep up the good work!

  6. admin says:

    Thanks for the support Paul.
(I’d also welcome any suggestions to improve it)

  7. Alex says:

Hi, just to say this is an absolutely great tool!

The only thing that I can thing of that would be useful is perhaps just a few different ‘themes’ you can generate treasure by, so you could quickly generate something more specifically appropriate to say a hoarding monster / ancient tomb / wizard / bandit / nobleman etc to reduce the need for rerolls to get treasure that ‘fits’. I must admit I have no idea how practical that is, so ignore it if it’s not but just a thought.

Thanks again for a great tool!

    Alex

  8. Oddysen says:

I agree with Alex, but I also think that adding more options like Contents (so that you can tick of the “types you want one migth think:
“I want my Treasure to be made of gems.”
Another one may think, “I want a powerful magic item.”
So It’d be great if it was posible to just tick of those things instead of having to reroll. (just a sugestion of corse, if one has a plan one may make his own treasure but having a tool like this to do that job is great, evenn though one has to reroll)

(By the way I am a great fan of the Monster generator)

  9. Valique says:

Love the tools all of them :D Thankyou!

  10. The Wizard 63 says:

I’m enjoying all of the tools you have here. For the Quick and dirty “Unique” encounters the is superb. I’m checking out the Treasure Generator. Thank you.

I was wondering to aid in treasure/game balance is it simple to add a treasure total?

  11. admin says:

Thanks for the comment Wizard 63,
I could quite easily add a rough treasure total including most magic items, but the magic weapons and armour with extra abitliies are a bit more difficult. I will look into it though.

As for quick and dirty I’m hoping if you use the NPC generator you can also create a pretty good Boss Monsters as well (With spells and magic items and being able to change stats). Any help on how to improve this would be gratefull…

    Paul

  12. Dave says:

You’ve spelled Challenge wrong in the “Challange Rating”

  13. Paul says:

Thanks for pointing this out Dave, fixed now. If anyone does find spelling mistakes please let me know and I’ll correct them (I’m a bit dyslexic so there will be more of them on the site).

  14. Josh says:

    Hey,
Great tool i was just thinking maybe of adding a couple different items to the “art+gems” part. I rolled a couple times and got many duplicates in the same hoard. Other than that this thing is a mega time saver.
Also, the magic item compendium is a great resource for adding more items. I f in live by that thing lol.

    Josh

  15. Paul says:

    Hi Josh
It’s a good idea. At the moment there are only 6 gems and 12 art objects(one for each catagory). I’ll add some more.
    Paul

  16. Devin says:

Will there be an update for Challenge ratings above 20?

  17. admin says:

    Hi Devin,
I’ll upgrage to CR 30 soon

    Paul

  18. admin says:

I’ve now added in more Gems and Art objects so you should not have so many duplicates.

    Paul

  19. aboyd says:

You have a “Potion of Eagles splender” which should actually be spelled, “Potion of Eagle’s splendor.”

  20. admin says:

Thanks for pointing out the error Aboyd, I’ve changed in now.

  21. Max says:

    What does the membership give?

  22. admin says:

    Hi Max,
I will soon be only allowing the Edit Saved NPC’s and Monster Creator options to be only available to paying customers. Paul

  25. starzichollow says:

your generater has helped me keep my game going, and its made it so easy for me to challenge my group. I don’t own any of the books but i tell a good story and your generater made it all possible. thanks alot for letting me use it. keep up the good work.

  26. Juan Pablo says:

    just great! excellent job!

  27. Mortagon says:

If you added the items from the Magic item compendium as well as the option to add more items on your own, I would seriously consider membership. Still, excellent work.

  28. David Birnhak says:

I’m running an epic campaign, and I think it would be nice if you allowed for a CR higher than 30. (I need one around 70) Thanks, and keep up the great work!

  29. admin says:

    Hi Mortagon,
I will look into adding your own items to the treasure generator.
    Paul

  30. admin says:

    Hi David,
I’d suggest just increasing the multiplier for higher levels.
    Paul

  31. Inncubi says:

“Staff of Evovcation” should be spelled “Staff of Evocation”

  32. admin says:

Thanks Inncubi I’ve now corrected this,

    Paul

  33. Cesare says:

    For the Pathfinder generator

There are Toughness 2-4, but no Toughness 1 (the prerequisite)

Can you implement a simple advanced template from the Bestiary? (I believe it is just a flat +4 to all stats)

Do you intend on implementing ALL the feats from the Pathfinder SRD or are you just keeping everything Core? (Nethys on the Paizo boards did conversions for all the Golarion-specific feats). If you did this, that would be kick ass!

All in all, thanks for a great program; it makes my life so much easier!

  34. admin says:

    Hi Cesare,
Toughness should be back in now (it disappeared)
I’ll look into the other feats.

    Paul

  35. Robert says:

Hello, this is a fantastic program thanks.

  36. admin says:

    Thanks Robert

  37. Necro says:

    Hey Paul,

I think the encounter generator should not only list the individual stats for monsters but also enable one to see the entire encounter as one. I understand that this feature wouldnt be useful when the encounter generator comes up with multiple monsters (10+)

By The Way, great program, makes DMing 1000 times easier :)

  38. Shonkey says:

When I was using the treasure generator, it pulled up an item called “Light Steal Sheild”. This should be “Light Steel Shield”.

  39. admin says:

    Hi Shonkey,
thanks for reporting the typos, I’ve fixed this now.

    Paul

  40. sethwms says:

Is there a chance to see a Pathfinder treasure generator with slow/medium/fast treasure progression tracks?

  41. admin says:

    Hi Sethwms,
I will look into a Pathfinder Treasure Generator, I have still got quite a bit of work on the Pathfinder NPC Generator though.
    Paul

  42. JFurlong says:

Treasure Generator doesnt appear to be here anymore. Is this just me?

  43. admin says:

Oops, Treasure Generator should be back now. Thanks for reporting JFurlong. I hadn’t noticed.

  44. zerofaith3 says:

Fantastic tool, as a second time 3.5 GM this is making my life a whole helluva lot easier. Have you ever looked into possibly doing a GURPS version?

  45. admin says:

    Hi zerofaith3,
I’ve not used GURPS but I’ll look into it.

  46. zerofaith3 says:

very cool :) um..just to let you know treasure gen doesn’t seem to be working…i’ve tried it a few times. and keeps coming up blank. any info?

  47. zerofaith3 says:

    never mind. working now :D

  48. Ryezen says:

For some reason, the treasure generation seems really inconsistent. For exmaple, I’ll sometimes input a CR20, zero coins, zero goods, and x4 Items, and sometimes get 2x medium items, and sometimes 4x medium, 4x major, etc. It seems that a logical system of each CR defining a cap value, with coins, goods, and items continuing to add to the list until that value is capped would work, but I’m not sure it’s happening as it should be.

  49. admin says:

Hi Ryezen, the treasure generator uses the table from the 3.5 DMG to create the results. For a CR20 This table gives a 25% chance of no magic items, a 40% chance of 1d4 medium and a 35% chance of 1d3 major.
So there is quite a lot of randomization a nearly equal chance of getting 1 medium item to 3 major items.
If you don’t like the first result I’d suggest just rolling it a couple more times and taking the best fit.
    Paul

  50. Ryezen says:

Thanks much for the explanation; your site has greatly enhanced the campaign I’m running for my friends/family.
